Frequently asked questions…
What is SUP?Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK and a fantastic way to enjoy the water. Not only is it great exercise, but it’s also a lot of fun! Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can take paddleboarding on rivers, canals, or even the sea. But if you’re after a scenic lake adventure, the Lake District is the place to be!
What should I bring? The weather in the Lake District can change quickly, so it’s best to be prepared for anything. You may or may not fall in, but either way, plan to get wet! Here’s what to bring:Wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet: swimsuit, shorts, t-shirt, or wetsuit (we provide wetsuits if needed).Footwear: swim shoes or old trainers (the shore can be rocky).Weather-dependent items: hats, layers, sun cream, etc.Valuables: We have a locker on-site for any valuables, but they’ll be at your own risk.
What’s included when I hire a board? When you hire a board, we’ll provide:Paddleboard, paddle, safety leash, and buoyancy aid.Waterproof phone cases and lockers for your valuables (limited wetsuits available).Feel free to bring your own wetsuit if you prefer!
What do we do in bad weather? The Lake District weather can change quickly! If conditions are unsafe (like strong winds), we may close our base. We’ll contact pre-booked customers as soon as possible and offer to reschedule your session. If you’re already out on the water and conditions change, head back to base. If there’s thunder or lightning, get off the water and to dry land immediately.
Will I fall in?It’s unlikely if you stay on your knees, but falling in is part of the fun! Don’t worry—you’ll be wearing a buoyancy aid, which will keep you afloat. Plus, falling in is the best way to boost your confidence and get rid of any nervous jitters!
Can I hire a board if I’ve never been paddleboarding before?Yes! As long as you can swim 50 meters, we’ll give you a quick introduction to paddling before you head out on the water. If you’d prefer extra support, you can book a group session with us. This is especially helpful for beginners or anyone looking to improve their technique. If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian must accompany you on the water.
